Fox Hunter Finds Mysterious Trail In Snow

Published January 13, 2015

An animal seems to have left an unusual trail in the snow by Hólmavík, RÚV reports. Þorvaldur Garðar Helgason, identified by RÚV as a fox hunter, has shared photographs and a video of the trail, which he spotted on Saturday.

“Most people think this was made by a seal, but the line in the middle is to thin for that,” says Þorvaldur, adding that the proposals made so far are as many as his Facebook friends.

Trail

Þorvaldur says that traced the trail over two kilometers. At what seemd to be the origin, he encountered fox steps, blood stains and scratches, as if a brawl had taken place.

According to Skarphéðinn Þórisson, biologist at the East Iceland Nature Institute, it seems most probable that the trail was left by a bird, crawling by its wings.

Þorvaldur Garðar agrees: “I think this is a bird, that’s the way I present it now,” he said. “Either it escaped from the mouth of a fox or crashed on that spot. These are the only two options.”
