If you wander the streets of Reyjavík this week, you might be surprised to see groups of college-aged kids of questionable sobriety galavanting about in matching costumes. What you’re witnessing is an old Icelandic tradition called dimmisjón.

These kids are celebrating the fact that the school year is soon drawing to a close. It’s the eye of the storm between the regular school year and final exams time; a moment to unwind and get rowdy with friends while dressed as a rabbit or a Star Wars stormtrooper.

In this video, shot by photography editor Art Bicnick, you can see some of the action as it unfolded in Reykjavík today.
