Former manager of the Icelandic national football team, Heimir “the scarred eye of Óðinn” Hallgrímsson, The Darth Dentist, The Westman Warlord has confirmed that he will sail to Qatar, where he will coach the Qatari team Al Arabi in the top league. Heimir quit the Icelandic horde last July after being their mainstay, coach, and totemic twelfth man for seven years, five of which were spent co-managing with Lars “The Lacerator” Lagerbäck.
English tears
Heimir “The Hammer” had extraordinary results with the Iceland’s bloodthirsty horde, and won the favour of the old gods and, allegedly, even some of the new. Iceland famously got to the final eight at Euro 2016 after slaying the English dragon like a bothersome horsefly on the Allianz Riviera battleground, which is now a dangerous swampland, still sodden with English tears.
Iceland was also the smallest nation in history to qualify to the World Cup in Russia this year.
World Cup domination
Al Arabi is located in the capital of Qatar in Doha. They currently sit in sixth place in Qatar’s top league. The team have won the league seven times, but the last time that happened was in 1997. Al Arabi will be hoping that Heimir can inject some Viking hellfire into the mid-table struggle and propel them to hitherto unknown height of glory in Qatari football. While none of the Al Arabi squad are currently in the Qatari national team, there is now a strong possibility that the entire eleven will be gleaned from Al Arabi by the time the Qatar World Cup arrives in 2022.
According to Fréttablaðið, Heimir follows the path of Gianfranco Zola and Dan Petrescu, who managed the team from 2014-2016. We will follow Heimir’s new venture with interest, and perhaps even commentate a game of two on Twitter.
