From Iceland — Icelandic Musician To Help Japan

Icelandic Musician To Help Japan

Published March 16, 2011

An Icelandic solo artist intends to donate all proceeds from his newest album to relief efforts in Japan.
Ísafjörður news website Bæjarins bestu reports that Jóhann Friðgeir Jóhannsson – better known as 7oi – will be giving all the profits made from his fourth album, ‘Don’t Push The Rocks In My Face’–as well as all proceeds from the sale of any of his music–to the Red Cross’ work in the wake of the tsunami that struck Japan last week.
“This disc would never have been made had it not been for the interest in my music that the Japanese have shown,” he said in part. “And of course, you do what you can to help out. It’s of course not the most popular album on the sales list, but many small things make one large one.”
7oi refers to the fact that the album was made in the aftermath of him receiving a lot of exposure in Japan in late 2008, resulting in his music is being played in about 50 restaurants in Japan.

His albums can be purchased in most music stores in Iceland, but can also be bought through his page on Gogoyoko’s website.
Writing on his personal website, the artist says in part, “What you spend is what goes to Japan, plain and simple. I’ll pay the shipping (which is included in the price of the cd’s, actually), if you buy something that needs shipping. … The people of Japan have been very good to me, and though it might not be much (I don’t sell like Justin Bieber), hopefully it can be of some help.”
