From Iceland — Huang Nubo Still Waiting On Reply From Icelandic Authorities

Huang Nubo Still Waiting On Reply From Icelandic Authorities

Published January 18, 2012

Chinese investor Huang Nubo is still waiting to hear from the Icelandic government on whether or not he will be permitted to invest in the tourist industry here.
As reported, Huang originally wanted to purchase a large tract of land in northeast Iceland, upon which he wanted to build a luxury hotel and a golf course. However, by Icelandic law, only Scandinavians may purchase land. While Huang had wanted an exception made in his case, Minister of the Interior Ögmundur Jónasson denied his request.
Undaunted, Huang still wanted to be able to invest in the tourist industry to some extent, and last December expected to hear something from the Icelandic government on possible ways he could do that.
Vísir reports that Huang has still not received a reply, despite almost daily requests from his representative in Iceland, Halldór Jóhannsson. According to him, they keep receiving the news that the matter is awaiting review at the Ministry of the Interior.
Huang appears to be determined, though, and will likely not move on until receiving a concrete answer.
