An unexpected escalation in bad weather conditions stormed west and south Iceland yesterday, making windows whistle all over the country and leaving downtown Reykjavík a graveyard of publicity placards.

As of this morning, the weather warnings are no longer in place, but you can expect rain and wind to be part of your day, so get your noisy waterproof clothes on because an umbrella will just leave you wet and embarrassed.

The week ahead will be a great display of Icelandic weather’s known inconsistency. The North can expect clouds and freezing temperatures, while the South is looking at some rain early in the week. However, clear days with some milder temperatures ranging from 0º to 6º are expected to appear by Wednesday and last until Friday, when most of the country will experience snow, rain or both.

Overall, weather and road conditions for the week seem to go accordingly with what’s expected from the winter season. All the same, please keep your safety in mind and check weather and road conditions before traveling.
