The Reykjavík skyline recently got a little bit better, with the addition of a small, adorable lighthouse on the east side of the harbour.
If there’s one quality to Icelandic coastal towns that is consistent across the country, it’s the prevalence of lighthouses. These structures are diligently maintained, and are emblematic of the county’s long history as a seafaring nation.
Now Reykjavík has a new lighthouse, made possible by the company YRKI and located by Höfði, on the eastern portion of Reyjavík harbour. This relatively lonely spot can be a great place for photos, quiet reflection, or for looking out at the waves and deciding whether or not you should leave your worries behind and board the next merchant marine vessel.
Below you can see a gallery of images of the new lighthouse taken by our photography editor Art Bicnick.
