An Australian tourist traveling with the airport bus on route to Reykjavík earlier this week dozed off on the journey and woke up to find herself locked inside the bus parked in the middle of an abandoned bus station by Sundahöfn.

“I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until all the passengers had been let out,” Hanna Pethani told RÚV. “The driver didn’t see me, left and locked up behind him. When I woke up it was 01:30 am and pitch black… I was really scared. I kind of lost it actually – I had no idea when I’d get out. I was beating down the door and screaming to no avail. Once I’d screamed for help for half an hour I found the emergency handle which I could pull to open the door.”

After finding the bus office Pethani tracked down the driver, who was thankfully still around and able to give her a lift to her destination.
