Though it did not crack the Top 10 Holiday searches in Google’s “Year in Search” for 2014, Iceland is on Google’s list of “rising holidays” – destinations that have seen the biggest increase in searches this year.
The Independent reports that the destination which has seen the biggest increase in searches in 2014 is Italy but that Iceland follows shortly behind in second place.
A possible reason behind this jump in interest is Iceland marketing itself as a stop-over destination for North America. Several flights will be launching next year with Wow Air taking off for Boston and Washington DC while Icelandair launches flights to Portland and Orlando International as opposed to Orlando Sanford – all via the capital, Reykjavík.
