A fire that began in an apartment in Hafnarjförður has been blamed on one primary suspect – the household cat.

MBL reports that firefighters and police were called to an apartment in the Vallahverfi neighbourhood of Hafnarfjörður at about three o’ clock this morning. There, a fire was already in progress.

According to firefighters, the blaze was started by a pizza box left on top of the stove. The residents managed to extinguish the fire before authorities arrived on the scene. No damage was done to the apartment, and all residents escaped unscathed.

The police report that, according to one of the residents, the only possible way that the stove could have been turned on was that the cat did it.

At the time of this writing, it is unknown if the cat was taken into custody, let alone if it was ultimately decided that the cat was the culprit or was exonerated of the accusations against it.
