Did you spot Sigur Rós in the latest episode of Game of Thrones? The ethereal Icelandic band turned up as wedding singers at King Joffrey and Lady Tyrell’s wedding with their cover of ‘The Rains of Castamere’.
The song, which is a calling card for a someone’s immediate demise (no spoilers) featured in Sunday’s episode, ‘The Lion and the Rose’.
The Icelandic trio – singer Jónsi Birgisson, drummer Orri Páll Dýrason and bass player Georg Hólm — appeared for a brief moment playing the tune at King Joffrey’s wedding reception but were quickly pelted with coins by the curt king and driven off stage.
“It was a great experience for us and fun to meet the cast of the show that we have all been following for a long time.” said Georg. “The meanest person in television history, King Joffrey, is played by the sweetest guy Jack Gleeson. It was a brilliant ‘hurry up and wait’ time for us and we would do it again in a heartbeat.”
