From Iceland — Icelandic Poetry In China

Icelandic Poetry In China

Published July 7, 2010

A new cultural foundation, called the China Iceland Cultural Fund, was formally announced this morning in Beijing, according to mbl.is.
The fund, sponsored by Chinese businessman Huang Nubo, hopes to promote cultural cooperation between Iceland and China. A top priority for the fund is to support literature, especially poetry.
The Cultural Fund’s first project is a poetry conference at the Nordic House in early October. Poets have been invited to attend from all the Nordic countries, including the Faroe Islands, as well as from China and Japan. In connection to this event, the presented poems will be printed in a special publication along with their translations.
The directors of the fund are Huang Nubo, president of Zhongkun Group, Kristín A. Árnadóttir, the Icelandic ambassador to China, and Xie Mian, a professor and director of the poetry centre at Beijing University.
