Flight attendants for Icelandair managed to strike a deal on their contracts during a meeting with management last night.
As reported, a two-day strike was scheduled for Monday. This could have had a drastic effect on the Airwaves music festival, as 70% of the bands booked to perform – not to mention many of the attendees – are slated to come via Icelandair.
An urgent meeting was called to make a last-ditch effort at a deal, and an agreement of sorts was reached at around 20:00 last night.
Union representative Sigrún Jónsdóttir said the new contract had many significant changes to the old one, and that she walked away from the negotiations table happy. The new contract will be presented to other flight attendants after the weekend.
However, the matter is far from over. The strike has not been cancelled but simply delayed – rather than starting this Monday, it is now slated for two weeks from that date.
