From Iceland — Flight Attendants In Negotiations

Flight Attendants In Negotiations

Published October 5, 2011

Icelandair flight attendants are currently in negotiations over their collective bargaining agreement, which may stave off a strike scheduled for next week.
As reported, flight attendants have been for a long time unsatisfied with the terms of their contract, and have not yet been given an offer that approaches their terms. As such, they have scheduled to go on strike this Monday.
The timing of the strike could end up scuttling the Iceland Airwaves music festival, as festival organiser Grímur Atlason points out that 70% of the bands booked to perform are supposed to arrive via Icelandair, not to mention many foreign attendees.
RÚV now reports that Icelandair flight attendants arrived for a negotiations meeting with management at 10:30 this morning. The outcome is as yet uncertain, but should talks fall through, the strike will in all likelihood go ahead as planned.
It should be had in mind, however, that this will be a two-day strike. An extended version is as yet unscheduled.
