A new poll from Market and Media Research shows centre-right newcomers Viðreisn are continuing their ascendancy, and are now polling third highest amongst parties Icelanders said they would vote for if elections were held today.

According to the results, the Pirate Party is polling highest of all; now at 21.6%, down from 22.7% in the previous poll, taken in late August. Over the same period, the Independence Party went from 22.7% to 20.6%.

Viðreisn continued the upward trend they have been experiencing since last June, and are now at 12.3% – about twice the level they were at just over three months ago. This does put them ahead of the remaining parliamentary parties, albeit to varying degrees.

Between polls, the Progressive Party have gone from 10.6% to 12.2%; the Left-Greens went from 12.4% to 11.5%; the Social Democrats showed very little change between polls, going from 9.1% to 9.3%; and Bright Future went from 4.5% to 4.9%.

Parliamentary elections will be held on October 29.
