A recent campaign launched by UNICEF in Iceland was able to bring in a tremendous amount of donations in a very short time.
Vísir reports that UNICEF started a campaign about a week ago to raise money for malnourished children in the Sahel, an area extending across Africa below the Sahara Desert. The area has been hit particular hard with drought and famine and, as is unfortunately always the case, children living in this area have been hardest hit.
However, in a single week, UNICEF in Iceland was able to raise 12 million ISK in donations towards the relief effort. This translates to roughly 214,000 portions of vitamin fortified peanut paste for these children.
Stefán Ingi Stefánsson, the director of UNICEF in Iceland, expressed his gratitude for “the support and great trust that UNICEF has been shown.”
Those interested in making a donation themselves can do so through their website. For non-Icelandic speakers, their contact page provides a number of ways to get in touch.
