The club NASA in downtown Reykjavík will be demolished this summer, to make way for a hotel.
NASA has been a part of Icelandic nightlife for about a decade now, hosting bands from Iceland and abroad, not to mention being the site of Páll Óskar’s Eurovision party. Vísir now reports that the building will be no more in a few months’ time.
Pétur Þór Sigurðsson, who bought the building some time ago, has decided that it will be torn down this summer, to make way for a hotel.
Ingibjörg Örlygsdóttir, the manager of NASA, told reporters that it was “tragic news,” adding that not just her but many others, including numerous musicians, make their living through NASA. In addition, the up-coming line-up for Airwaves will now need to be adjusted.
