Katla has been showing signs of seismic activity, likening to the glacial flood of last summer.
The activity, Morgunblaðið, is similar to the activity that Katla showed in July 2011, when volcanic activity under the Mýrdalsjökull glacier rapidly melted the ice, causing a flood that wiped out roads in south Iceland.
A volcanologist Morgunblaðið spoke to said that activity has been increasing over the past few weeks, and that warming weather has also prompted officials to more keenly follow activity at the glacier.
Katla last erupted in 1918, and erupts about twice a century. It is considered likely that the volcano will erupt at some point within the next ten years.
