From Iceland — Five Percent of Icelanders with Neither Fridge Nor TV

Five Percent of Icelanders with Neither Fridge Nor TV

Published December 28, 2009

The newest survey from Statistics Iceland shows, among other things, that five percent of Icelanders own neither a refrigerator nor television. Four percent, however, own a boat.
Some other factoids to come up in the survey:
The average monthly income of an Icelandic household is about 470,000 crowns (about 2,000 euros, or nearly 4,000 dollars). Of this amount, most households spend about 426,000 crowns each month; 14,000 on alcohol and tobacco alone.
The percentage of households without a car has decreased from 13% in 2006 to 9% today. Of those households who have cars, 35% had more than one car, and 6.5% had more than three cars.
