In the days since the Meradalir eruption has started, the site has already changed. The fissure, which was initially about 500 metres long, is shorter now, with two prominent areas producing most of the lava. Authorities continue to warn about toxic gases from the eruption, which are visible as a blue smoke in the valley. These photos were captured on Friday, August 5th.
