The latest forecast from the Icelandic Met Office predicts a working week replete with sunny days, while the weekend will bring rain and snow.
Today, tomorrow and Thursday will bring sunny skies to the entirety of the country, with calm wind speeds in the single digits. Which is fortunate, because temperatures are expected to be below freezing, although never reaching below -10°C anywhere apart from the Highlands (where you have no business being this time of year anyway).
The weekend, however, is a different story. Clouds will begin rolling in early Friday morning, leaving the whole country shrouded in dimness with the exception of the southeast. Snow and rain are expected to fall in the northwest, with possible flurries in other parts of the north.
This snow and rain will begin to make its way south, over much of western Iceland, as Saturday wears on. By midday Sunday, heavy rains can be expected to pour down over West Iceland, while the east will enjoy cloudy skies but above-freezing temperatures.
This being the case, if you want to travel around Iceland, try and do so now rather than wait for the weekend. As always, be sure and check the weather forecast (linked above), as well as road conditions, before you get behind the wheel.
