After a stormy start to the week, the weather has calmed down significantly. The rest of the week looks very promising, with lastingly sunny but cold days over the weekend. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to soak in some D-vitamin and spend some time outdoors.

The weekend looks especially promising for the Reykjavík area, where sunshine is forecasted with temperatures just over zero. Similar weather is predicted for the northeast region, except that temperatures may drop down to -10°C.

Next week it will be even colder, with potentially -17°C in Akureyri and Egilsstaðir. Anyone planning to enjoy the steadily declining sun hours should do so but consider that this is a model case of what Icelanders refers to as “window weather” (gluggaveður). It may look like a gorgeous day from the comfort of an insulated home, but don’t be deceived; it’s freezing.

Hence, be sure to dress appropriately when venturing outdoors and always check weather and road conditions before traveling.
