POC (people of colour) advocate, actress and blogger Franchesca Ramsey has given kudos to Icelandic Glacial water for using a dark skinned model in their advertising campaign.

Icelandic Glacial Water used Senegalese beauty Khoudia Diop to front their ‘Pure Authenticity Campaign’, alongside models from diverse backgrounds.

“Representation matters y’all. And I now I don’t have to tell you that,” Franchesca wrote on her Instagram.

Francesca Ramsey rose to fame in 2012, after her video, ‘Sh*t White Girls Say…to Black Girls’ (SWGSTBG) went viral. She now has almost 29 million views on Youtube, and hosts the MTV News web series Decoded — slamming race stereotypes and cultural appropriation. The advert really struck a nerve with Franchesca, who jumped off the train to get up close and personal.

Iceland of all places

“YO. when I tell you I got off the train at a random step because I saw this ad through the window and needed to take a photo?! MAM! To see a DARK SKINNED BLACK WOMAN in a major ad campaign?”, comments Franchesca.

“A brand from ICELAND of all places?! This is truly monumental.” Her video, capturing the ad from every angle has clocked up nearly 30,000 views on Instagram.

“Congats (sic) @melaniin.goddess for this fantastic campaign and kudos @icelandicglacial for casting her in it! I’m taking my ass to the store and buying a bottle in your honour.”

Haters back off — she isn’t being paid to promote the brand (but she’s a business woman and ready to cash in). “No this shit ain’t sponsored but hit me up cause your girl is ready #BlackGirlMagic.”
