Legendary Icelandic musician Bubbi Morthens was met with a cold reception at his 60th birthday concert – from one attendee in particular, anyway.
Last night, Bubbi held a concert at Harpa on the occasion of his 60th birthday, and many of Iceland’s movers-and-shakers were in attendance. Amongst them, Vísir reports, was entertainer Sigurður Hlöðversson, also known as Siggi Hlö.
Siggi was reportedly enjoying the concert well enough, until Bubbi shared a few kind words about his choice for the next President of Iceland, Andri Snær Magnason.
“I just didn’t like it, and I found it completely inappropriate and tactless,” Siggi told reporters. “This was just supposed to be a 60th birthday party; not a campaign meeting. I booed him mightily, and a few people around me stopped and stared at me.”
Siggi’s objections might also might have more to do with just the alleged misuse of a birthday concert, however. As he has publicly affirmed, he is a supporter of financier of Halla Tómasdóttir for Iceland’s next President. In fact, Siggi is on the board of the advertising firm Pipar/TBWA, which has done work for Auður Capital, a finance company co-founded by Halla.
