Not content with just dominating Icelandic news headlines this autumn, Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber has announced he will perform in Kópavogur on September 9, 2016, according to a Sena press release. Some 19,000 tickets will be on offer for his show at Kórinn, where Justin Timberlake performed last year.
Bieber famously filmed his video “I’ll Show You” in Iceland this summer, putting Iceland in the spotlight and causing a media frenzy, with multiple news outlets scrambling to report all the places he was spotted.
After the video was released, the tourism industry expressed concerns that he had travelled through protected areas to get to the locations in his video. “We think [the video] is of course a great introduction for the country, and our area, which we are very proud of,” Þorbjörg Jónsdóttir, the project manager for Visit Klaustur, told reporters. “But at the same time, we’re a bit scared that it will lead to more tromping around in an area that we’ve already closed off.”
Shortly thereafter, independent filmmaker Gersin Livia Paya said “I’ll Show You” ripped off her skate odyssey called ‘Í Kring’ that she had recorded the year prior.
