Naked Icelandic men will feature in the next issue of the bi-monthly male photography magazine Elska, reports Gay Iceland.
Each issue is shot in a different city with local boys and a focus on local stories.
“It’s a very diverse group actually,” said Elska’s editor Liam Campbell. “The youngest is 20 and the oldest 54 – all living here but not all Icelandic. One from Turkey, one from France and one Brazilian, but the rest are Icelandic.”
Convincing Icelanders to strip off their clothes has apparently not been a problem, though there is occasionally some doubt.
“In a way [Icelandic men are] really open-minded – but at the same time there is a more conservative element here too,” said Campbell. “At first they were fine, saying: ‘Well, people see me at the swimming pool anyways so…’ But when we met, some were a bit more shy and said they might not want to be totally naked, explaining that they’re were afraid that a co-worker or someone close to them might see the photos. A little bit of shyness, which is understandable considering how small the country is.”
For those interested, the Elska issue featuring the Icelandic boys will be published in the new year.
“It will be a happy new year present!” said Campbell.
