A Spanish director with the hopes of shooting feminist, queer-friendly porn in Iceland is up against one snag: it would be illegal.

Gay Iceland reports that director Lola Clavo – who has received accollades for producing innovative, non-exploitative porn – has been hoping to scout talent in Iceland.

“I’m not searching for professional actors,” she said. “It could be someone with experience or without it. Just someone who is comfortable with being filmed. My only real condition is that the performers identify as queer.”

Lola added that in her scouting for locations, she found Iceland’s landscape breathtaking, adding, “Both it and the light, it’s the most amazing thing, obviously everything is very beautiful, but the light… especially at night is just something very, very special. Iceland has really inspired my erotic writing.”

The only problem with the idea: shooting porn in Iceland is against the law.

Supreme Court lawyer Vilhjálmur Hans Vilhjálmsson told RÚV that the law appears to be “indisputable” on the matter, pointing to Article 210 of the General Penal Code, which states that publishing, printing, or distributing porn in Iceland is illegal.

However, Vilhjámur admitted that while making porn in Iceland might be illegal, defining what porn actually may be is no easy task. Further complicated is differentiating between porn and erotica, which is not prohibited by law.
