If you think your hummus rocks the casbah, now is your chance to put your chickpeas where your mouth is.

The Icelandic Vegan & Vegetarian Society has announced a hummus-making contest will be held this June 27 at 11:00 at the Friðarhús (Njálsgata 87). Judging will begin at 14:00, with a winner announced that same afternoon.

Entrants can take part in two categories: “traditional” hummus, and “free-form” hummus. Traditional hummus participants must abide the conditions that their hummus be made from chickpeas and tahini, while free-form hummus might use other ingredients, such as sun dried tomatoes or beets.

Participants in both categories must ensure that their product is vegan, containing no dairy, with serving portions of at least 400 grammes. Everyone must also have a written recipe accompanying their creations.

To take part, simply fill out the form at the bottom of the page linked above. The fields are (in order from top to bottom) Name, E-mail, a checkbox for either Traditional or Free-form hummus, and lastly, a box for your recipe. Participants will then receive a registration number in their e-mail.

Registration is open until June 26.
