- Maybe. Name proposed by Institute of Earth Sciences
Earlier this October, The University of Iceland’s Institute of Earth Sciences has proposed that the new lava flow field in front of Dyngjujökull, currently created by eruption, shall be called Nornahraun or “Witches’ Lava”. This is not least due to the amount of Pele’s hair witnessed throughout the eruption. In Icelandic, the phenomenon is known as “nornahár,” or witches’ hair.
In other volcano-related news, Visir reports 80 earthquakes in and around Bárðarbunga in the 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday morning. The largest of those was of magnitude 5.3.
