The Icelandic Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for this coming Tuesday and Wednesday.
RÚV reports that an unusually strong low pressure system is headed for Iceland, bringing with it very high winds and high levels of rain.
On Tuesday, the low pressure system will travel about 10-18 m/s just off the west coast of Iceland. This could develop winds up to 35 m/s in higher elevated areas in the southwest and the mountains. A great deal of rain is expected to fall as well, mostly in south Iceland.
The system will continue to move across the country on Wednesday, traveling in a northeasterly direction. Meteorologists cannot say where the worst weather in the country will be during this time, but unusually high winds and rain for this time of year are expected.
Those planning on traveling during this time should exercise great caution, and check the webpage of the Met Office for updates as they appear. Bear in mind that if the meteorologists’ written forecasts say one thing, but the maps show something else, the written forecasts are the ones that should be considered accurate.
