Never have more men been sterilised in Iceland than in 2013
According to new data from the Directorate of Health more Icelandic men than ever before opted for a vasectomy last year. RÚV reports that 507 men were sterilised last year and by comparison 483 underwent a vasectomy the year before that. In 2000 this figure was “only” 248.
Last year 168 women opted for sterilisation and the data shows that the number of women seeking tubal ligations is decreasing.
People aged 35 to 44 are most likely to undergo sterilisation, followed by people aged 25 to 34. Overall men account for 75% of all sterilisation operations.
