Plans to construct a bicycle path from Keflavík airport to the neighbouring town of Reykjanesbær are underway as the town files an official request with the Icelandic Road Administration, reports DV.
The request is part of a move to increase commuting options for the 750 Reykjanesbær residents that work at the airport.
“This path will not only be beneficial to Keflavík Airport employees,” said Guðlaugur Sigurjónsson, director of Reykjanesbær’s Environment and Planning Department. “It will also improve security for all the tourists who increasingly opt to cycle from the airport, down Reykjanesbraut and on to Reykjavík.”
Guðlaugur also hopes this will open Reykjanesbær up to more tourism.
