The Airports Council International (ACI) has announced the results of their Airport Service Quality awards, and Keflavík International Airport (KIA) was amongst the recipients.
In the category of Best Airport By Region – Europe, ACI noted KIA for “being modern, warm and convenient with personal service and ease of flight connections.”
“We want to keep our place at the top and are always trying to find ways to improve passenger experience,” says Hlynur Sigurdsson, director Leif Eiriksson Air Terminal. “Now we are investing in new facilities, increased automation with more automatic check-in and security kiosks, automatic boarding gates as well as free wi-fi and a more efficient baggage handling system. We are planning to open 6 new gates in 2016 that will provide additional waiting areas as well as new retail opportunities and more comfort for the passengers. Furthermore, we are always looking to expand the airport’s network and increase our connectivity as a hub between Europe and America. In order to achieve this, we have an incentive program for new routes. In the near future we will make major changes to the airport’s retail area, as we are in the middle of a pre-qualification for a retail concession. At the same time we use the opportunity to redevelop the departure hall and reassess the mix of service. The major focus in this work will be the passenger and efforts to make the passenger experience as pleasant as possible. We estimate that the redevelopment of the departure hall will be ready before the summer of 2015.”
KIA has been awarded amongst Europe’s best airports for several years running now.
