According to the European Travel Commission, Iceland had the highest growth in foreign visitors in Europe with an increase of 21% last year, reports Travel Daily News.
The ETC report, “European Tourism in 2013 – Trends & Prospects“, says confidence is growing in the tourism sector with 29 million more international visitors to Europe than in the previous year.
An unprecedented 60 million international tourists visited Spain (+6%) and tourism to Turkey (+10%) grew fast despite protests during the central months of the year.
The countries with the highest growth in foreign visitors however, were the smaller destinations.
Iceland with a 21% increase in foreign visits, followed by Latvia (+14%), Serbia (+13%), Greece (+12%), Slovakia and Malta (both +10%).
