Possibly the world’s first romantic comedy with an Icelandic volcano as a central character will be shown at the French Film Festival in Reykjavík.
RÚV reports that the movie, entitled Eyjafjallajökull, tells the story of a divorced couple who plan to attend their daughter’s wedding in Greece – in April 2010.
As anyone who tried to take a flight in Europe at that time can attest, no one was flying anywhere. The couple in the movie find themselves having no choice but to drive from France to Greece instead, and the sparks fly along the way.
About 10,000 people attend the French Film Festival in Reykjavík each year, and will be continuing over the next two weeks at the Háskólabíó movie theatre. Below, you can see a trailer for Eyjafjallajökull (in French, with German subtitles). Even if you understand neither language, you can still enjoy the first few seconds, which features various random French people attempting to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull.
