From Iceland — Jeep Owner Defends Parking Habits

Jeep Owner Defends Parking Habits

Published September 2, 2013

The owner of a now-infamous Range Rover has defended his documented practice of parking across two handicapped parking spaces as a matter of convenience.
A Facebook group called “The Worst-Parked Car”, which uploads photos of Icelanders parking badly, has found quite a trove of examples from one driver alone: the owner of an orange Range Rover. Numerous photo examples of his bad parking have been posted to the group, including the most notorious example: double-parking across two handicapped spots and partially over a sidewalk.
DV managed to find the driver, who is an active user on the website Live2Cruize. There, the driver had some choice words for his critics.
“I’m not proud of what I did. I just don’t care at all what other people think,” he wrote on the site, saying that in the case of the double-parking across handicapped spaces, his wife was still in the car, and “she could have moved the car if some disabled person showed up.”
He further justified his behavior as a simple cost-benefit analysis, saying, “I didn’t want to be doored in the small parking spaces there. I’ve spent enough money fixing the doors already, and it costs me less than 5,000 [ISK in fines] compared to 20,000 or so I’d pay to park legally. I always take up two spaces when I park. It’s likely the smallest traffic violation I’ve committed.”
