The Iceland Symphony Orchestra (ISO) received mixed reviews for its performance at the Kennedy Centre’s Nordic Cool festival in Washington, DC over the weekend.
The ISO’s performance of the complete “Lemminkainen Suite,” by famed Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, was a massive hit among audience members, according to a review published in the Washington Post. However the performance waned when the group premiered the works of two Icelandic composers, “bd” by Hlynur A. Vilmarsson, and Anna Þorvaldsdóttir´s “Aeriality.”
The Nordic Cool festival is a month long celebration of Nordic cultures, featuring threatre, dance, music, visual arts, literature, design, cuisine, and films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. It runs through 17 March at The Kennedy Centre.
