Those visiting Iceland for the annual Design March festival have been having a difficult time finding available accommodation, Vísir reports.
“Design March is held every year in March because there is typically very little happening at this time for tourists. This time of year was always considered to be ‘off season’ but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore,” said Halla Helgadóttir, director of the Icelandic Design Centre. Halla added that, as tickets are not sold for Design March she cannot say exactly how many tourists travel to Iceland specifically for the festival, though she has noted many tourists taking in the offerings of Design March.
“We try to direct visitors to accommodation where they will be comfortable, but it has been difficult because everything is full.”
A celebration of Icelandic design, the fifth annual Design March will be taking place March 14th through 17th. Be sure to read all about it in the next issue of the Grapevine, on the streets March 1st.
