80% Of Icelanders Support An Independent Palestine

Published October 24, 2011

The results of the latest Gallup poll on the subject shows that the vast majority of Icelanders support total sovereignty for Palestine.
The question posed by the poll was “Do you think Icelanders should recognise the Palestinian declaration of independence, or do you think they should not?”. Of those who were asked, only 66% gave an answer.
Of those, about 80% answered that Iceland should recognise a sovereign Palestine. More women than men supported the idea, and those with university degrees were also more likely to support an independent Palestine than those who are less educated.
Broken down by party affiliation, 95% of those voting for either of the ruling coalition parties (the Social Democrats and the Leftist-Greens) , 68% of Progressives, 55% of conservatives, and 89% of those who support other parties believe Iceland should recognise Palestine’s declaration of independence.
