The state broadcasting service RÚV has been nominated for an Emmy this year, in the category of best news coverage.
Last year’s eruption of Eyjafjallajökull received international attention, and was followed by media outlets the world over. RÚV was also on hand to cover the eruption, and their reporting has earned them an Emmy nomination.
Competing with RÚV are TV Globo, in Brazil, for their reporting on a police raid of a drug lord’s home; ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, in the Philippines, for their coverage of a hostage crisis involving tourists; and Sky News, for their in-depth coverage of the inner workings of the Taliban.
This marks the first time an Icelandic media outlet has been nominated for an Emmy.
This year’s Emmys will be held at Lincoln Centre, New York, on 26 September.
