Summer has begun in Iceland! Being the third Thursday in April, it is
the start of Harpa, the warm, light season of the old Viking calendar.
Despite the rain, today is a day when people try and get outside as
much as possible to welcome the season and take part in the
celebrations and special events held around the country.
Did anybody leave a bowl of water outside last night? Tradition has it
that if the water freezes in the early hours of the morning (freezing
the season together), before the sun has a chance to warm it, the
summer is going to be a good one.
Gleðilegt sumar!
