Two Canadian tourists who were lost for six days in poor weather in north Iceland have sent a letter of thanks to the people who found them.
Vikudagur reports that the pair had been missing for six days, with no luck despite a search effort underway during this time.
Páll Rúnar Traustason and Einar Hjartarsson, who are partners in The Touring Club of Akureyri, were taking an inspection of an area the club uses, which includes an emergency shelter at Laugafell. There, they saw a car parked outside, and found that a missing Canadian pair had been there for the past six days.
Páll and Einar were quick to tell reporters that the tourists acted correctly – in the event of being lost in the wilderness, the best course of action is to seek shelter and stay put, making it easier for rescuers to find you, rather than wander aimlessly in the elements.
The Canadians sent a thank-you letter to the two, wherein they express their gratitude, adding that “we would not have been rescued without your help.”
