Former UN Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kofi Annan will be coming to Iceland today.
He will be speaking at Háskólabíó at 13:00, on the occasion of the University of Iceland’s 100th birthday tomorrow. He will then meet with President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, followed by a press conference.
Tomorrow, he will visit the Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal power plant. There, scientists will familiarise him with the process and explain the advantages of geothermal power for developing countries.
Annan has been a tireless advocate for helping developing countries move into the 21st century. His establishment of the Global AIDS and Health Fund earned him a Nobel Prize in 2001.
