The protests began this morning were peaceful, with nearly 400 people showing up at its peak. Shortly after 13:00 some conflict arose between protesters and police protecting the entrance of the Central Bank and one protester who refused to leave was taken into custody.
Additionally, during the conflict singer Ellen Kristjánsdóttir, sister of singer KK, who was amongst the protesters, had her hand injured by the police and had to go to the emergency room. According to Ellen, she was sitting peacefully at the entrance of the building when police became aggressive towards her without warning.
Ellen stated to Visir that she was there protesting the inactivity of the authoritative action on the Central Bank. “The recommendations they have made are unreasonable and the financial companies have wronged us,” she is quoted as saying.
