Perhaps to the relief of those tired of hearing about Icesave, British and Dutch authorities appear to have little interest in the matter, for the time being.
Elections are pending in both the UK and Holland, and with both challengers and incumbents alike with their minds on campaigning, going to the negotiations table with Iceland over Icesave seems to have taken a back seat.
Foreign Affairs committee chairman Árni Þór Sigurðsson, along with representatives from all of Iceland’s political parties in parliament, recently made a trip to the UK to meet with British MPs and other government officials. Sigurðsson told RÚV that the meeting was fruitful, and that they were warmly welcomed.
Polls indicate that both the UK and Holland appear to be taking a swing towards the right wing, as far as parliamentary elections are concerned. What this will mean in terms of leniency in the Icesave matter remains to be seen.
