Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir responded to Central Bank chairman Davíð
Oddsson’s interview Tuesday evening with a mix of surprise and denial.
Oddsson had said, among many other things, during his interview that he had emphasised the weak position of Iceland’s banks numerous times, last of all during a meeting with the former government at the end of September. Haarde responded to this statement by denying outright that he hadn’t taken economic warnings seriously enough.
Gísladóttir, for her part, told Morgunblaðið that she doesn’t even know what Oddsson is talking about when he says he had “European economic experts” review Iceland’s situation and complete a report on the matter. “If such a report was submitted, it didn’t reach me,” she said.
