The population of Iceland could reach 430 to 490 thousand in 2060, mostly because of high net migration, according to a new population projection from Statistics Iceland.
Average life span will continue extending with both women and men, according to the projection for 2013-2060, and it is presumed that each woman has on average two children.
Currently, the population of Iceland is just under 321.900.
“The net migration is projected to be positive the whole period until 2061. This is based on modelling migration behaviour and certain external variables (GDP, unemployment and number of graduates, explaining the migration of Icelandic and foreign citizens for the short term projection until 2017. After that, the value of the net migration was assumed to be constant,” reads the projection.
So, any hopes of Icelanders taking over the world this century have been crushed but hey, maybe during the one after that?
