Analysts at Arion Bank are forecasting record breaking tourism over the next few years, predicting nearly 900,000 holiday-makers coming to the country in 2015, Vísir reports.
If Arion Bank’s predictions come to fruition it would mean that tourists in Iceland in 2015 will be nearly triple the country’s population; a 1/3 increase over 2012 tourism numbers. Last year tourists spent 250 thousand ISK per person, on average, so the financial benefit to the economy could be substantial if these numbers hold up.
Arion Bank notes that the tourism forecast may actually be an underestimation if the winter tourism rates continue to increase like they have this year.
