Just in time for Mother’s Day, a new report shows that Iceland is the fourth-best place to be a mom.
According to the report, conducted by Save The Children – Iceland with an examination of some 178 countries, Finland is the best country in the world to be a mother. The worst country to be a mom, according to the report, is Somalia.
Iceland landed in fourth place this year, where infant mortality is lowest in the world, second only to Luxembourg. The chances of a child in Iceland dying before the age of five are 1 in 435. By contrast, the chances of the same happening to a child in Sierra Leone are one in five.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the report drew a correlation between trying to raise a child in a developing, war-torn country and a great deal of hardships that mothers in those countries face.
