Support For Progressives Drops

Published July 16, 2013

Support for the Progressive Party has decreased, while support for their partners in the ruling coalition – the Independence Party – grows, meaning increased support for the government as a whole.
According to a new poll from Market and Media Research (MMR), support for the Progressive Party – which leads the ruling coalition – has decreased from 19.3% to 16.7% in the past month. Over the same time, support for their conservative partners, the Independence Party, has increased from 26.5% to 29.7%.
Among the opposition parties in parliament, only the Pirate Party managed to increase their level of support between polls, going from 6.9% to 8.4%. Meanwhile, the Social Democrats went from 14.4% to 13.5%; the Leftist-Greens from 13.3% to 13.1%; and Bright Future from 12.5% to 12.3%.
Support for the ruling coalition as a whole, over this time period, has gone from 51.1% to 54.8%.
MMR polled 972 individuals, aged 18 and older, from July 9 to 11 of this year. The question of individual party support was asked separately from whether or not the respondents supported the ruling coalition.
